Std. V and Std.VI had an English Recitation Competition. This was conducted by Mrs.Tipnis and Mrs.Kotnis. Judges for the event were Mrs.Phatak and Mrs.Gambhir . Yashraj Gaur, Ronit Patil, Devesh Narayanan and Gauri Gadkari of Std. V won the first, second, third and the consolation prize respectively.rom Std.VI, Anoushka Joglekar, Shriya Khisty, Aishwarya Adgaonkar and Ujjwala Raina won the first, second, third and consolation prizes respectively.

Students of Std.VII & VIII had an Extempore Speaking Competition in Hindi, conducted by Mrs.Kusurkar and Mrs.Sheth. The students were judged by Mrs.Garware and Mrs.Sant. The winners from Std.VII were Shubham Ekbote (1st Prize), Janhavi Apte (2nd Prize), Amol Joshi (3rd Prize) and Prajakta Late won the consolation prize. From Std.VIII, Amruta Sachdev, Richa Raj, Nikhilesh Krishnakumar won the first, second and third prize respectively and Sarika Dhoot and Ravikant Bhogshetty won the consolation prize.

Students of Std.IX & X had an inter class debate – the topic being “Should Animals Be Kept in the Zoo ?” Mrs.Kudchadkar judged the event and Miss Priyanka Singh anchored the show. The competition involved a question answer round, which gave an opportunity to the audience to express their views. Std.IX (for the motion) scored 118 points and Std. X (against the motion) scored 124 points.

Miss C.Lakshmi attended a two day workshop on “Child Focus Teaching” conducted by Etheos Business School.

5. Prof.Belsare conducted a workshop on English – the Spoken Language and Phonetics at the Vikhe Patil ‘s – Little Flower School Loni . This workshop was attended by the Vikhe Patil Schools Nasik and Shevgaon. The following teachers from VPMS Pune attended the workshop on two occasions : Mrs.Nandini Charles, Mrs.Oke, Mrs.Phatak, Mrs.Ghosh, Mrs.Iyer, Miss Sadaphule, Mrs.Kotnis. Mrs.Phatak, Mrs.Menon and Mrs.Ramkumar attended the “Panel Discussion on New Science Text of Std.IX” which was held at the Muktangan Exploratory Science Center.

Mrs.Jyothi Menon attended a workshop on Remedial Workshop conducted by Lora & Morris Trust.

A workshop of “Materials Development for English Language Teaching”, conducted by the British Council and British Library was attended by Mrs.Urmila Tipnis

Bishop’s School conducted their Annual Inter School English Debate for the Patwardhan Trophy. The topic of the debate was “Nuclear Weapons are war Deterrents”. Shekhar Bhende and Priyanka Singh spoke for the motion and the latter against the motion given. They were trained by Mrs. Ashita Pardeshi.

Dr.Kalmadi Shamarao High School conducted the Interschool Festival of Poetry “ Versatility” This event was covered by the team from BBC television. The poem was to carry a message. The following children, trained by Mrs. Sujata Kotnis, won the third prize : Gauri Gatkari, Shreja Khisty, Isha Rege, Akshay Mohile, Devesh Narayanan, Anoushka Joglekar, Samarth Kirloskar, Anoushka Hardikar, Adwait Bhide, Namita Damle, Aishwarya Adgaonkar and Namrata Singh

Dr. Kalmadi Shamrao High School conducted a debate called “Talk of the Town’. The topic of the debate was “The Indian Culture is losing its identity because of globalization”. This event was covered by a team from BBC television. Priyanka Singh of Std.X and Pramatha Mulay of Std.IX participated in this event and won the second prize. Mrs. Nisha Pathak was responsible for training these children.

Aboli Athale and Tulsi Kamath of Std. X participated in an Inter School English Debate conducted by J.N.Petit Technical High School. The topic of the debate was “Is Modern Technology a Home Breaker?” The children were trained by Mrs. Mrunalini Ajrekar.

Amrita Sachdeo and Richa Raj of Std.VIII participated in an inter school debate meet “Waxing Eloquent”, conducted by Symbiosis Secondary School. The topic of the debate was “Freedom of Expression : a myth not a reality in India”

Around 30 children from Std. X participated in the 4th Inter School Talent Search, conducted by Yuck Educational Services Pvt.Ltd (an IIT Alumni Body).

Anushka Joglekar of Std.VI was the City Final Audition Winner in the Nat Geo Junior Hunt

The members of the Rotary Interact club, along with the Rotarians participated in a rally, for the eradication of Polio. Children of Std.IX walked through Janawadi, Gokhale Nagar and nearby areas, and spoke to people about giving their children (under 5-6 years of age) the next dose of Polio Vaccine.

Dr.Kalmadi Shamarao High School conducted an Inter School Music & Dance Festival with various cultural events . Namita Damle (junior) and Mithila Tople (senior) participated in the Indian Classical Dance. Tejas Mhalgi (junior) and Pooja Thakur (senior) participated in the Indian Classical Vocal competition.

The following children from our school participated in The Times NIE Spelling Bee 2006.Std.VII A,B,C – Amol Joshi, Janhavi Apte, Radhika Dange. Std.VIII A,B,C – Nikhilesh Krishnakumar, Vaibhav Shah, Noopura Huddar, and Std.IX A,B,C – Saurabh Kumar, Pramatha Mulay and Nikhil Singh

At the Classmate Connect Young Author & Artist Contest, Anshuma Gokhale of Std.VIII won the Consolation Prize.

Omkar Dhakephalkar and Amol Joshi participated in the Bournvita Quiz Contest that was held at Calcutta.

Concern India Foundation had arranged Aviva’s Walk with Concern in Pune. It was a 5 km walk through Deccan Gymkhana, and the VPMS band, along with Mr. Ashok Gunjal participated in this walk

Derek O’Brien & Associates conducted and Intra School Competition – The Cadbury Bournvita Confidence Champion. The following children won medals :

Infosys conducted the “Catch Them Young” Contest, and the following children were selected to attend their Summer Workshop : Rohan Biwalkar (Std.IX), Piyush Kulkarni (Std.IX) and Aditya Degala (Std.VIII)

A number of children from Std.VI and VII participated in the Winter Workshop conducted by the Muktangan Exploratory Science Center.

National Science Day is celebrated at IUCAA with a number of activities for children from various schools. Rohan Biwalkar, Ameya Deshpande and Piyush Kulkarni of Std.IX took part in the Quiz Competition. Sharawati Chitnis participated in the Essay Competition and Aishwarya Zunzarrao participated in the Drawing Competition. (Results awaited)

Children from our school participated in the prestigious Fundamental Quiz conducted by the NIE of the Times of India. Our school was one of the six teams from among hundreds of other teams to be selected for the final round of the quiz. Our quizzing trio consisted of Akshay Nirbhay (Std.IX), Aditya Kandaswamy (Std.VIII) and Omkar Dhakephalkar (Std.VIII)

Our School participated in the interschool competition organized by IUCAA on Saturday 24th February, as part of Science Day Celebration. Our quizzing team of Rohan Biwalkar, Piyush Kulkarni and Ameya Deshpande won the second prize in the much awaited, exciting, interschool quizzing competition. They also won a cash award of Rs.200/- each.

Mrs.Gambhirn accompanied our children to Bishop Cotton Boys School, Bangalore, to participate in “Exquizite”, an inter school quiz conducted by noted quizmaster Giri PICKBRAIN Balasubramanian. There were three teams of two children each:
Team 1 comprised on Ameya Deshpande (Std.IX) & Aditya Kandaswamy (Std.VIII), Team 2 of Akshay Nirbhay (Std.IX) & Omkar Dhakephalkar (Std.VIII) and Team3 of Tanvi Kale (Std.VIII) & Amrita Sachdev (Std.VIII).

Students of Std.IX participated in the Geography Talent Search Examination conducted by the University of Pune. Ameya Deshpande stood first in our school, with a score of 70% and a cash award of Rs.50/-.

VPMS inaugurated the SMS Services for School-Parent Communication , to facilitate smooth communication between parents and school regarding their wards, and school related activities.

As an end of the year activity, a number of activities were organized by the Environmental Education Department with the help of Mr. Swapnil Sheth and Mr.Parag Khataukar.. A debate was arranged for children of Std.VIII & IX. There were 6 teams of 4 members each ( 3 teams for and 3 teams against) and the topic for the Debate was “Is development more Important than the need for Conservation?”The participating team from Std.IX were : Nikita Junnarkar. Aayushi Jagad, Prmamtha Mulay, Vanessa Horig, Rucha Lunkad, Vishwas Pai, Akshay Nirbhay, Vedant Dham, Roshan Mohile, Tejas Veeramani and Nikita Bhagat. Participants of Std.VIII were : Devika Deshpande, Ronak Mehtani, Richa Raj, Salil Hangekar, Aniket Joshi, Debopriyo Moulik, Kunal Choudhary, Amrita Sachdeva, Vaibav Shah, Kishan Rana, Sarika Dhoot and Omkar Dhakephalkar. Students of Std.VIII were the winners. Std.VI & VII had a quiz programme and there were six teams of 4 members . The participants of Std.VII were : Janhavi Apte, Amol Joshi, Priyam Patki , Oshan Apte, Aditi Misal, Annirudha Bhondwe, Janhavi Apte, Shweta Shinde, Namrata Date, Radhika Dnage, Akshay Kirloskar and Aishwarya Naik. Participants from Std.VI were Annushka Joglekar, Malhar Bhoite, Aaishwarya Adgaonkar, Annushka Hardikar, Namita Damle, Shlok Bhalinge, Jayandan Gejji, Akshay Mohile, Ketan Bedarkar, Shravani Baldota and Prachi Kumar. The winning team comprised of Priyam Patki, Oshan Apte, Janhavi Apte and Amol Joshi, all of Std. VII.

We also celebrated Republic Day, Independence Day, Annual Day, Sports Day, Teachers Day and Children's’s Day.

28th February is celebrated as Science Day. During assembly, the importance of science and inventions of various scientists was read out by the POD. Rohan Biwalkar of Std.IX explained the principle of the working of the Hot Air Balloon.

Later in the day, there was an exhibition of various science projects done by students of Std.IV to X. Mrs. Jyoti Shelke and students of Std.VII put up on a stall on delicious soups and salads that could be made with nutritious ingredients.

Students of Std.IV visited Rajiv Gandhi Zoo at Katraj and the Kaware Ice Cream Factory for their school picnic/field trip.

Std. V enjoyed themselves at the Lekha Farms while students of Std.VI visited Ghadke Farms.

Students of Std.VII & VIII went for a trek cum picnic with Pugmarks to Splendor Country.

Students of Std.IX went for an overnight picnic cum EVS field trip to Thosegar and Kaas. They were accompanied by Mrs.Swapnil Sheth and Mr. Parag Khataukar of Bharathi Vidhyapeeth.

Std. X were sent for an overnight picnic to Durshet, Khopoli.
