 WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS BY DBL:
Our teachers from Pre-primary to std X attended a 2-day interactive workshop on "Leadership & Communication,conducted by DBL.Development beyond Learning(DBL) is a training institute under the able leadership of Darshana Wadnere. The workshop proved effective in providing valuable inputs about goal setting ,personal & interpersonal development,behavioural patterns,positive thinking & various other interesting aspects of leadership & communication skills.Mr.gary Lear,the Australian facilitator of the workshop enthralled the teachers through his activity packed sessions.
IUCAA LECTURE PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS:
On 9th August 2008,a Lecture by Prof. M.Prakash on 'How to study Maths Effectively' was conducted in Chandrasekar Auditorium IUCAA.He explained the difference between Information & knowledge.He encouraged the students to make a conscious effort to associate a new idea with a number of similar ideas already existing in the brain.He challenged them to go beyond textbooks & discover the creativity within themselves.His website is www.mprakashacademy.co.in.
Rucha Badwe,Payal Kendre,Namrata Date,Snehal Jagdab & Akshay Kirloskar from std IX.& Anish Avhad,Mitali Tipnis,Devika Deshpande & Madhuna Kulkarni from std X along with Mrs. Jyothi Menon attended the lecture.

 
 

 MONTH END ACTIVITIES

JUNE:
STD IV & V :The students of std IV & V watched with rapt attention.The puppet show that was organised for them by the school as a month end activity.Mrs. Ragini Soman,very enthusiastically & realistically got her colourfully dressed puppets to enact three different stories with great verve!Each story had a moral which was clearly brought out during the enactment by the puppets.The children enthralled and spellbound by this show & were more than willing to watch it a second time around!
Std IX & X As a part of month end activity ,the creators of 'CHINTU'(a popular cartoon series published in 'SAKAL' newspaper) Charuhans Pandit & Prabhakar wadekar were invited to interact with the children.They discussed about how they created this character.They also explained how small incidents in routine life could be picked & converted into humour by 'CHINTU'.They displayed some humourous cartoon strips,whish were enjoyed by everyone.They drew cartoons on the board & showed how emotions could be added to plain faces.In the end guests were given a special bouquet of flowers prepared by the students themselves.

STD VII & VIII: As a part of the 'HEALTH PROMOTING CONCEPT' initiated in our school from this year & to create an awareness about the different disabilities seen in our society at range,to snsitise children to those suffering from disabilities,Std of VII & VIII attended an inspirational workshop on the same.the resource person Ms.Ritika Sahni very skilfully updated the children of the different kinds of disabilities seen & what 'WE'as responsible citizens can do to help those physically disabled & to make their social environment,a better place to be in.

Std VI: The art department organised 'A greeting card making competition'for Std VI as a part of month end activity.The theme of the competition was 'Save Our Animal Kingdom'.the medium was paper collage.Children came up with unique ideas in representing the animal kingdom through the medium of paper collage.Docile Girrafes,ferocious tigers & chirpy birds all found a place in their expression against colourful backgrounds.Their headlines & slogans were such as:- 'My friends don't have a place to live,you are cutting their forests' etc.. Three prizes have been awarded to the best entries in each division . They are:
VI A:1) Sanjana J,2)Neha Sintakke,3)Janhavi Patgaonkar/Ketki godbole
VI B:1) Ishani Bhagat,2) Tanisha Shrotriya,3) Yashdeep Thorat
VI C:Sumeet Kuvelkar,2) Shambhavi Panse,3) Tanvi Kale.

JULY:
STD VI & VII
Poem Recitation competition was conducted for the classes VI & VII as a part of month end activity.Judges invited were : Mrs. Gambhir & Mrs. Shubhangi
Class teachers of std VI:Santosh W,Dipti.P,Chetana.Y
Class teachers of std VII: Tabassum,Jyothi Shelke,Ashita.P
Competition was open to all.Interested students participated in the competition.Semifinal was conducted in their respective classes.Best three students were selected for the finals from each class.The results are as follows:
Std VI: Namrata Mantri(I),Mahika Uppadye&Anushka Biwalkar(II),Shambhavi Panne(III)
Std VII: Nimish Wagh(I),Pushkar Chougule(II),Devesh Narayanan(III)
STD IX & X: As a part of month end activity,the students of IX & X were screened a movie called 'Children of heaven'.The movie was about a brother & sister who despite all odds,helped each other & toiled hard to be victorious in life.Indeed it had metaphorical connotations - to be precise,the meaning of life ,which helped students in real sense.
STD VIII: A friendly extempore speech was held as a month -end activity in the bio lab for the students of std VIII.The participants were given a topic on which they had to speak for 3 minutes.About twenty two children participated with great enthusiasm.They were judged by Ms.Laxmi.They were judged on the contents,fluency,expressions,pronounciation & body language.The winners were:-Rama Gokhle(VIII B)-I,Malhar Bhoite(VIII A)-II,Shubankar Raykar(VIII C)-III.
Consolation prizes:Akshay Mohile (VIII B),Aniruddha Kulkarni(VIII C)

AUGUST:

STD IV & V Students of std IV & V presented a small skit that tried to create an awareness amongst their peer group about National Integration .The skit death about an NRI family,who were on a vacation in Mumbai in Mumbai,India,comparing incidences & events in the past & the present.The skit highlighted the most recent incidences that had occurred at the hands of the MNS volunteers who had gone around driving out the non-Maharashtrians residence in Maharashtra.Looking at the present deteriorating situation,the family tried to share their past experiences with their children thus making them aware of the difficult times they might have to face.
STD IX & X :As a part of month end activity,we had an interhouse debate conducted in the Seminar hall on the 29th August.It was between the Sapphire & Coral house.The topic for the debate was "British Rule-boon or bane" Sapphire house was against the motion however,Coral house favoured the motion.Indeed,it was a 'Heated debate'.Both the teams were well prepared & Spoke very well.Mrs Gambhir & Mrs Nisha Phatak were the judges for the same.Finally Sapphire house stood victorious.

SEPTEMBER
Choir Festival : Held at Bishops School on 22nd September 2008.

Annual Prize Day

Vikhe Patil Memorial School celebrated its Annual Prize Day on Friday 26th September '08 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha.The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest Lt.Gen.S.S Mehta(Retd),Mrs Madhu Mehta,Dr Ashok Patil,Chairman Dr.Vikhe Patil Foundation and Mrs Nandini Charles , Principal VPMS.This was followed by a welcome to the Chief Guest with flowers.

Mrs Nandini Charles then read out the report highlighting the achievements of students in academics as well as in various fields .The prizes for the academic year 2007 - 08 in various categories like General Proficiency,Languages,Science, Math,Social Studies and 100% attendance were given away by Mrs. Madhu Mehta, Dr.Mrs.Eva Patil and Lt.Gen.S.S.Mehta(Retd.) to students of Std. I to X.

Devesh Narayanan,a student of Std. VI regaled the audience with a wonderful violin recital. Dr.Ashok Patil then addressed the audience which was followed by a very inspiring speech by Lt.Gen.S.S.Mehta(Retd.).The school choir rendered lilting melodies under the tutelage of Mr.Dinyar Antiya.
The well organized programme was compered by our young brigade.

OCTOBER

MARRS International Spelling Bee contest


Kudos to Devesh Narayanan !!.He has won the 2nd prize from amongst all students of the entire South East Asia Region.
He has been awarded a trophy and a certificate.
Congratulations. You have done us proud.
