Students brains are malleable and continue to learn and grow. We at Vikhe Patil Memorial School believe to bring Scientists in to our classrooms so that Science is more fun and engaging and beyond the walls of classroom.
A talk was organised by Middle School on February 19th 2022 on the topic “Science of Synthesis and Applications of Nanomaterials”. Dr. Amol A. Kulkarni- Scientist in the Chemical Engineering & Process Development Division at the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune graced the occasion as the Guest Speaker. The guest lecture was conducted on Microsoft Teams and was attended by students of Std VI-XII.
Daiwik Pande from Std VI welcomed the Guest Speaker and his valuable contribution in the field of Nanotechnology.
Dr Amol elucidated on usefulness of Nanoparticles in various fields. He explained history of Nanomaterials. He elaborated about Lycurgus cup produced by romans which showed colour variations depending on wavelength of light. This was due to presence of gold and silver nanoparticles in them. He focused on different ways to synthesis nanomaterials Top-down method and Bottom up method. He said that Nanotechnology is used in our day-to-day life. It has become so important that without even realising we are using nanotechnology nowadays like in electronical devices, in their chips, in touch screens of i-pad. Nanoparticles are used in various places in medical field, to burst tumours etc.
At the end of the lecture there was a Q&A session in which the students asked their questions and Dr. Amol answered each and every one of them very patiently. It was a very good learning experience as it gave in depth knowledge about the topic.
Ekagra Mandal from Std VII expressed his views and proposed the vote of thanks to all the participants and also expressed gratitude towards Principal Mrinalini ma’am for giving this wonderful opportunity to interact with scientists.
