The 24th Annual Senior School Sports Meet of Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune was held with great pomp and splendor, on Saturday, 19th December, 2015 from 3.30p.m. to 6.45p.m. on the School ground. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Lt. Gen. Raymond Noronha, AVSM, SM, Chief of Staff, HQ Southern Command, Pune, who kindly consented to grace the occasion and gave away the prizes.
The programme began with the welcome and introduction of the Chief Guest, who then inspected the Guard of Honour, comprising of the Head Prefects and House Captains of the four houses. The torch was carried by the State and National level players around the ground and the Games Captain requested the Chief Guest to declare the Annual Sports Meet Open. This was followed by the March past by the four houses- Coral, Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire. The oath was administered by the Sports Captain Chinar Oak, after which the dignitaries on the dais were welcomed with bouquets. The Coffee Table Book depicting 25 years of the VPMS, Pune was then released at the hands of Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Noronha.
A magnificent lezim display by students of Stds VII and VIII was then witnessed, followed by a spectacular yoga performance by students of VI, VII and VIII in various formations. Following this, events such as the Under 14 and Under 16 Hurdles, 80m, 100m and 200m races took place. This was followed by a Tug of War between past and present students, which was won by the current students of VPMS, Pune. The Under 16 and Under 19 mixed relays took place after this, which was followed by the Inter School Relays, wherein, our sister institutions viz.VPMS, Lohegaon, VPMS, Nashik and Little Flower School, Loni, participated. VPMS, Pune was in First place, followed by VPMS Lohegaon in Second place. A final relay between past and present students was also held.
The closing march preceded the Prize Distribution of Sports Day events, Inter House Matches and Special Prizes. The Best Captain prize went to Aditya Gadkari of Coral House and the Outstanding Sportsperson prize for the year 2015-16 to Megh Thakar, both of Std. X. The Best Student of Std X prize for the year 2014-15 went to Saloni Sapale.
The Chief Guest Lt. Gen. Noronha then delivered an inspiring speech, which was appreciated by the assembled parents, students and staff.
Subsequently, an awe inspiring gymnastics display was put up, wherein students and gymnastics teachers alike, displayed their bravery, skill and agility, by jumping unscathed through a blazing hoop of fire. By this time, it had grown dark and it was a perfect setting for the Torch Drill performed in perfect synchronization, by students of Std VI. As is the wont, the Sports Teachers were then introduced to the Chief Guest and felicitated with bouquets. The Sports Meet concluded with the vote of thanks given by the Sports Captain and the singing of the National Anthem.
The coveted March Past prize was won by the Emerald House squad and the keenly contested House Cup was won by an ecstatic Ruby House with 287 points. The Best Conduct prize was bagged jointly by the Sapphire and Emerald Houses.
