Webinar - Hydroponics
An intriguing session on Hydroponics - Future of Agriculture was conducted by Guest
Parent Speaker, Mrs Namrata Sarda. She is an angel investor for promising technological
companies focusing on environment, sustainability and education. She shared how during
Covid times, Hydroponics has brought her closer to her roots when she started it on her
roof terrace. She explained all the aspects of Hydroponic farming theoretically and
practically. A farming system where greens are grown organically without soil, with
nutrients and 90% less water, pesticide free, and 40% more nutritious than traditional
farming. It takes limited space.
She gave live demonstration of sowing seed in a special cube called ‘oasis’ which replaces
the role of soil. She showed the setup and systems required for hydroponics. A variety of
plants ranging from vegetables like tomatoes, Lettuce, Cucumber, Kale, Spinach, Beans,
Peppers, Capsicum Radish, Ginger, Aloe-vera and Herbal plants can be grown.
We must look at ways in which we can do sustainable farming and contribute towards the
environment. It is a form of “precision farming” where nothing is wasted.
