Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi is an Indian politician and the current Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture of India from 7th July 2021. She is a Member of Parliament from New Delhi Parliamentary constituency in the 16th and 17th Lok Sabha from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Born in Delhi, Lekhi did her graduation from Hindu College of the Delhi University (DU) and joined the Campus Law Centre for an LLB degree. She registered herself with the Bar Council in 1990, and started practicing in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court.
Lekhi’s political career began in 2010 as a national vice-president of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha. She was appointed as a chairperson of parliamentary committee on Public Undertakings in July 2019 and is continuing since then in that position.
Meenakshi Lekhi known as the dynamic and versatile face of BJP, as she is their national spokesperson and a Supreme Court of India lawyer. Lekhi writes ‘Forthwrite’, a fortnightly column in The Week magazine. She has debated over several issues on television shows and in various articles in newspapers. Ms. Lekhi has been a part of the Drafting Committees for Bills like “Women’s Reservation Bill” and “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill”. The latter was passed by the Parliament.
