Junior Sports Day 2022

The Annual Sports Day for the Junior School was held on Tuesday, 20 th December, 2022 at 3:30 P.M. on the school playground with a lot
of zest and enthusiasm. It marked the start of the series of Sports Days after a gap of almost two years! The Chief Guest for the event was
Flying Officer Sarvesh Navande, from the Indian Air Force, who has also been an alumnus of our school.

The event started with the arrival of the Chief Guest and his introduction to the Head Prefects, Games Captains, and Captains and
Vice Captains of the four distinctive Houses. Thereon, he was escorted by the Games Captains to the dais for a salute to be given in
his honour. Next followed the Torch Run by the International, National and State players. The achievements of the students were
truly inspiring and they received a warm round of applause from the audience for the same. The Opening Ceremony was then commanded
by the Chief Guest, wherein, the students depicted the blossoming of a flower, which was a mark of the event being officially declared open!

The audience then had an audio-visual treat through the well- coordinated March Past by the four houses; Ruby, Sapphire, Coral
and Emerald, coupled with music by the school band. Then followed the Oath Taking Ceremony led by the Games Captain, Mitali
Bhamare, which was a solemn promise of fair play and invoked the spirit of sportsmanship amongst the participants. The Chief Guest and
dignitaries were then felicitated by the principal, Ms Mrinalini, post which, the Chief Guest was seated to watch the further proceedings.

The Games Captain, Vihaan Saraf, then proceeded to read out the Sports Report which was a summary of all the Sports activities
conducted at school and also of the noteworthy achievements made by our students. Then followed the well-coordinated drills and displays. Std I and II presented a heart-warming ‘Garden Drill’ with Flowers, Bees and Butterflies used as props. The audience gave them
a heartfelt applause for their colourful display. Then followed a group of young gymnasts from Std I-III to display their flexibility and
agility. They presented the Front Roll, Back Roll, Split, Back Split, Bridge and the Cartwheel, which enthralled the audience. The final
display was a Tae Kwon Do Drill by the students of Std III, through which they displayed some of the Blocks, Kicks and Punches used in
the form of martial arts.

The audience then witnessed the high-octane track events which consisted of individual Running Races, Fun Races and team events
like the Relay Races. The audience cheered with enthusiasm and motivated the participants with their continuous applauses for the
sportsmanship displayed by them.

The students then assembled at the centre of the field for the Closing March Past. The Chief Guest then proceeded to address the students
and parents. He not only won the hearts of the students with his candid confessions about his schooling years but also motivated them
by sharing his experiences about his journey of achieving the status of a Flying Officer in the Indian Air Force. The touch of humour added
to his speech, made the audience listen with rapt attention! Then followed the much-awaited Prize Distribution Ceremony. The
Chief Guest did the honours of giving away the prizes for all the races witnessed by the audience and also for the Special Prizes which were
short-listed on the basis of their achievements. The final prize announced was the House Trophy which was bagged by Emerald
House! The Sports Staff were then called up for a photograph to be taken along-with the Chief Guest, to recognize their untiring efforts in
making the show a grand success.

The show was hosted by Aria Dhakade from Std 5, Sushrut Bobhate from Std 4, Swara Kulkarni from Std 3, Vedhika Gadiyar from Std 2
and Rudra Ghatge from Std 1, who left the audience in awe with their flawless diction and confidence!
The event ended with the Head Prefects presenting the Vote of Thanks, followed by the National Anthem.

Needless to say, that whatever the audience witnessed was the combined effort of the students and teachers, along-with a whole hearted support from the Principal and Management of VPMS Pune.
