Reel Creators Club

On 28 th January, The Reel Creators club visited Seamedu, a media institute. We got to see all the skills which are required to pursue a career in the media field. There were different branches like Photography, VFX, Sound Effects and Game Development. We started our tour by visiting their photography studio. The students there showed us the basics of photography. A great thing that they showed us was the effect of lighting. A volunteer from us was chosen to be the subject of the picture. They first took a picture with no professional lighting and the picture was completely black. Then he took a picture with a light which had the same intensity as the sun’s light at noon. Then he took a picture with another light that imitated the light at sunrise or sunset. Lastly he added both the lights to show us the final picture and you could see the difference it made. The picture was sharp, and all the shadows were eliminated. It was a great start. Then we visited a set they had created of a talk show and it was enclosed by a green screen. They again told us about how they need place certain things, the mics, the lights, the furniture for it to look perfect. Then we went to what was my favourite place in the whole tour, the Sound Studio. The student there introduced us to sound systems and speakers. The speakers there were of Dolby 7.1.2. He then explained to us how the sounds we hear in movies are recorded in the studio and showed us examples of some of the work done by the students there. Finally were went to their VFX and game development facility. They showed us videos of how movies like ‘Bahubali’ are made. Almost all of the fantasy effects are made by green screens. The video showed the actual scene in the movie and then the behind the scenes with none of the artwork so showcase how the filming was done actually. In the game development side, the teacher told us the basis of what it takes to make a simple mobile game. From actually making the artwork for the game, to develop it by programming and coding. It takes a lot of effort and time and focus to make these apps. Overall I would say that this visit was very insightful and fun. We got to see how the personnel were trained and how they do their job efficiently. I would like to thank all the club in-charges for taking us here and making us aware of how things actually work. It was an intellectual and excellent learning experience.
