Republic Day

The 71st Republic Day s was celebrated with gaiety and patriotic fervor at Vikhe Patil Memorial School on 26th January’2020. Dr. Ashok Vikhe Patil, Chairman, Ms. Nandini, Director, School’s programme and Joint Secretary, Dr. Vikhe Patil Foundation and Ms. Mrinalini Bhosale, Principal VPMS, Pune graced the occasion. The programme began by unfurling of the national flag by the Chief Guest followed by the salute and the national anthem. The students of Std XI performed a dance on the patriotic song ‘Aye Watan’ which was followed by a speech in English by a student from the PCMRD. The students of classes 6,7, and 8 sang a well harmonized patriotic song in Marathi ‘Utung Amchi Uttar Seema’.

The Chief Guest Dr Ashok Vikhe Patil addressed the gathering through his inspirational speech for the next generation to uphold the values of humanity and responsibility. The finale was an instrumental rendition of Vande Mataram on the sitar, pianica, drums, guitar and the violin.

Thereafter, the legacy of the unprecedented and unparalleled move that VPMS took up since the previous two years of organizing a Republic Day ‘Processional Parade’ was seen this year too with the dignitaries flagging off three floats representing three

states to depict the cultural aspects of India , through the glory and richness in the three states ; Goa, Odisha, and Rajasthan, The students of Std III represented the vibrant and extremely popular tourist destination the state of Goa showcasing the carnival festival with the intent of giving the message of ‘Environmental Cleanliness’.

The students of IV and V presented the float of Odisha depicting the Sun temple of Konark followed by the float of Rajasthan put up by the students of classes VI to VIII showcasing the opulence and grandeur of the state.

Each float was an elaborate display of the beautiful landscapes of the particular state and all students on the float were dressed in authentic traditional wear. A narration about the states, their food, culture, traditions and geographical conditions was played in the background for each float.

It gave a concise glimpse of that particular state to the onlookers and passersby. The floats flagged off from the school went through SB Road, BMCC Road-FC Road-Model Colony joining SB Road and back to school.

The celebration proved to be a lifelong learning experience for all the students on the floats and the by standers. The parade, a miniature representation of the Republic Day celebration, which happens in the capital, sent across a strong message of unity in diversity and went hand in hand with the motto of the school ‘Making Life Meaningful’.
