I CARE, I DONATE BLOOD

Each day, thousands of people need donated blood and blood products to keep them in good health or allow them to stay alive. Donating one unit of blood may save the lives of up to three people, according to the American Red Cross. Blood donation is the greatest donation and a noble step in the service of humanity. Keeping this social responsibility in mind the management of Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune arranged a blood donation camp in association with KEM hospital, on 14 th January 2023.This was the Third Blood Donation Drive in the
school in collaboration with the KEM Blood Bank, Pune. For VPMS, This camp is another feather in their crown.

This Blood Donation Camp was organized by Ms Mrinalini, the Principal of VPMS,Pune. Under her able guidance, Mr. Vijay Deshmukh. Coordinated with Mr Kishor Dumal PRO of Blood bank, KEM hospital. All arrangements for the collection of blood were made in the Junior Block, Multipurpose Hall by Mr. Benjamin Michael. A team of medical staff from KEM hospital reported at 9:00 am for preparations. The duration of this camp was 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The school had circulated a google form to all parents, staff & alumni and they shared the same with family members, friends, etc to know about their willingness to donate blood. On arriving at the donation center, they did register for donation, a simple physical examination and blood was tested before it was donated. VPMS staff and parents responded in large numbers for this noble cause. However, it was identified that some of their HB was low and hence couldn’t donate the blood. The blood donation process of all the people was done by the medical team. It took 6–10 minutes for a person to donate their blood. 50 persons donated blood voluntarily to make the camp a complete success. For monitoring the donors they were asked to wait for 10–15 minutes before leaving the venue. During that time
they received some refreshment sponsored by Mr. Lazarus Fernandes.

Many of our staff and alumni donated blood with generosity. Many parents participated in the program by donating blood in a very positive way. It was a safe blood donation camp as the center followed the standard guidelines. The blood donors were provided with a blood donation certificate card and a pouch by Blood Centre KEM Hospital. The school received a trophy and a certificate from KEM
hospital as a mark of appreciation for organizing the camp.

All the collected blood was taken to Blood Centre KEM Hospital to lifesaving care. This was an act of great service to humanity. Such meaningful activities are part of the culture of Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune. People should join hands and participate more in such philanthropic works.
