Report

We can’t heal the world today but we can begin with the voice of compassion,a heart of love and act of kindness. – Mary Davis.

This was evident when the students of grade 10 visited Maher’s Vatsalyadham in Pune as part of their field visit.

Maher is an interfaith and caste-free Indian non-governmental organisation based near Pune with remote homes in Ranchi, Ratnagiri, Miraj and Ernakulam. The objective of the organisation is to provide shelter and support to women, men and children facing difficult
and desperate circumstances.

One of the main centres of Maher, Vatsalyadham, houses many destitute women, the mentally challenged and little children picked up from the streets. It’s a home for the homeless. The staff there are educated men and women who are committed to making life better for the neglected. .

The students were welcomed by their staff and inmates .Students were taken to the manufacturing unit and around the premises .Later they shopped for articles made by the inmates. Inmates were very happy to dance and interact with our students.

The students had collected a substantial amount of money with which groceries were bought for the Ashram and handed over to the authorities. Old clothes were also donated by some students.

Students were sensitized about the challenges faced by people with mental disability. They were very sympathetic and realized the challenges faced by the inmates. A few students gave written feedback about their experience at Maher.

Both the students as well as the teachers thank the school management and specially Principal, Ms. Mrinalini for providing us this great opportunity to visit Maher and interact effectively with the inmates there.
