The first club activity of Mass Media And Communication Club was held on 27th of April 2024. The students had an interactive session with an eminent journalist Mr. Mubarak Ansari who specializes in criminal journalism and is a managing editor at Punekar news.

We learnt about the basics of journalism and what goes behind the scenes while publishing a news report. The students  also got to know about the principle of “5 W’s and 1H” which helps formulate a news report. Mubarak sir also talked about how podcasts are made and how should a topic be chosen and spoken on during a podcast. They  also learnt about the various job opportunities in the media sector, and how anyone can be a part of it. Sir also talked about how he acts when he gets to know about a criminal incident and ensures that his sources are accurate and his report is perfect. The students  got to know about the hierarchy that one needs to follow while writing a news report.

To conclude the session the students of the club wrote a news article on the issue of ‘ The increase in traffic at Pune University Chowk’ and read the article in front of all the club members. They also understood what needs to be improved in their reports. Overall it was an enriching and new experience for all the members of the club.

  • Anvit Likhate and Param Oswal

Club activities have always excited me, but this time I was even more eager as this was our first club activity for the new academic year. As a child, I was always curious about how things are broadcast over various mediums like television, radio, cinema, etc.

Today, I finally found answers to my unravelling questions thanks to Mr. Mubarak Ansari who is a conventional journalist. His years of experience in the field journalism has helped us to comprehend the basics and has shown us that journalism requires thinking out of the box.

We wrote a mock report on the traffic congestion on the Pune University Circle, which helped us to apply the components of a report.

Truly an amazing session. Loved it!!
