Space and Astronomy Club
Date: 26 th August 2023, Saturday

Name of the Activity: Making a model of LVM3 Rocket.
Objectives:
 To explore Space Science and Astronomy through hands on experience.
 To gain a deeper understanding of its mechanics, structure, and operation of LVM rocket.
 To inculcate the spirit of curiosity through scientific methods.
 To promote teamwork and disintegration of task.

Resource Person: Mr. Parag Gore (Box of Science)
Activity Plan:
The activity was conducted on Saturday, 26 th August 2023 in the Seminar Hall [Std 9 and 10] and A.V. Room [ Std 6,7 and 8]

“Everything is theoretically impossible until it is done.” – Robert A. Heinlein

On 23rd August, the most awaited event of landing a Rover of our country on the South Pole of the Moon, ISRO finally confirmed that Chandrayaan-3's lander had successfully touched down as planned. Chandrayaan-3 is the third Indian Lunar Exploration Mission under the Indian Space Research Organization. It consists of a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan. The presentation and video regarding this event were shown and explained to the students.

This was followed by a brief presentation focused on the structure of the LVM3 Rocket. He also explained how the mission unfolded in its various phases. The trajectory of the rocket was explained and the students also enthusiastically participated in the discussions to share their views as to what would happen if there was no Moon. Then he focused on the previous missions starting with SLV and concluding with PSLV and GSLV.

A very elaborate discussion was conducted by Mr. Parag Gore on this occasion. He explained about the journey of building the LVM3 rocket and it’s uses. The added advantage of this activity was a PPT related to different facts and findings of the rocket. This helped students to understand stepwise methods to prepare a model of LVM3 Rocket. The students designed the exterior of their own models in a creative and unique way and it was announced that the best one would be awarded a prize by Box of Science in the next activity.

Students enjoyed this activity and they found it very resourceful and meaningful which provided them an opportunity to make a model on their own. This entire activity clearly indicates that inter- disciplinary approach in the teaching learning process proves beneficial for conceptual clarity of the students. The making of LVM3 rocket in this school activity truly proved to be an extraordinary endeavour, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.
